TYPE 2 DIABETES CANADA

Best Tip:
In Type 2 Diabetes manage your blood sugar in the first 10 Years New Page 1

Person: Non-Diabetic (Normal)

Blood Glucose levels should be
.Fasting blood sugar under 100 mg/dl = 5.5 mmol/L
One hour after meals under 140 mg/dl = 7.8 mmol/L
Two hours after meals under 120 mg/dl = 6.7 mmol/L
.
.

Person: Type 2 Diabetes

Blood SUGAR  levels should be..
If you 'embrace' your Type 2 Diabetes
you will gradually learn to control it and achieve an HbA1c of 7% or below.
But to do this, you need to check to see your
fasting blood sugar (glucose) levels are 4 - 7 mmol/l (72-126 mg/dl) (when you wake up)
test your blood glucose levels before meals between, should be  4 and 7 mmol/l (72-126 mg/dl).
Remember, you still need tablets if you are ill;
if you are being sick or cannot swallow the tablets, |let your doctor or nurse know.
Occasionally test after meals (preferred levels less than 10 mmol/l) (180 mg/dl )

.
To achieve very good control (HbA1c 6.5-7.0%) you need:
.
a fasting pre-breakfast glucose less than 5.5 mmol/l (99 mg/dl )
.
pre-meal levels at other times less than 6.0 mmol/l (108 mg/dl )
.
after-meal levels (2 hours after a meal) less than 8.0 mmol/l (141 mg/dl).
.
.
These levels cannot be achieved in all patients. But if you are well and are prepared to stick to a healthy
diet and exercise your medication should be adjusted to achieve these levels, even if that means starting insulin.
.
.
.

How to Tell if you have Prediabetes
There are two different tests to see if you have normal blood sugar (glucose) or pre-diabetes:

1) the fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) or
2) the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

1) The fasting plasma glucose test (FPG)

If  you are pre-diabetic or diabetic, among the first issues you will have to deal with are blood sugar levels, irregular blood sugar levels, and just how to monitor your blood sugar level.

A basic blood sugar chart will give you an idea of what values you should be aiming for to take care of your health and stay clear of harmful health effects due to type 2 diabetes:

  •  Normal Fasting blood sugar (glucose) levels are 4 – 5.5mmol/l (70- 100 mg/dl) (when you wake up);
these amounts are typically less in the morning, and rise soon after meals.

  • Regardless of what you may have previously eaten, a random reading of 10 mmol/l (or 180 mg/dl) or more, may suggest you have type 2 diabetes.

  • A fasting blood sugar reading taken, for example, any time after you wake up each morning, should be, as mentioned  4 – 5.5mmol/l (70- 100 mg/dl).

If the fasting blood sugar reading is 7 mmol/l (126 mg/dL) or more, you may have type 2 diabetes.

When monitoring your blood glucose levels, its crucial that you study any patterns with your readings with your doctor or diabetes nurse or healthcare professional, and take note of variations with meals, medications or other activity (like stress) that trigger undesirable readings.

Diabetes really is a serious problem, and can have devastating effects on  the whole body, on eyes, kidneys, heart, nerves, possibly leading to blindness, kindey failure, amputation of feet, heart illnesses and stroke. Those who have diabetes, regardless if it is type 1 or 2 is a real threat to health.

For those that have pre-diabetes it's by no means too early to consider aggressive preventive measures by altering your way of life and lifestyle choices.

Best Tip: In Type 2 Diabetes manage your blood sugar in the first 10 Years

How To Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

THE BOOK - Control Your Blood Sugar and  Reverse The Root Cause of Type 2 Diabetes!

Here's important news for anyone with diabetes. A remarkable E-Book is now available that reveals scientifically proven principles that can help trigger your body to produce more insulin naturally, reversing diabetes symptoms without the need for medication.

Diabetes is a condition in which sugar is not properly absorbed by the body. Globally the incidence of diabetes is expected to exceed 250 million people by 2025 – resulting in 35 million heart attacks, 13 million strokes, 6 million episodes of renal failure, 8 million instances of blindness or eye surgery, 2 million amputations and 62 million deaths – that is a measure of the scale of the problem. While diabetes belongs at the top of the healthcare agenda, it has yet to be given that position.

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 21 million diabetics in America; with another 54 million people having pre-diabetes (placing them at high risk for developing Type II diabetes). This equates to 75 million Americans having diabetes, or being at high risk.

Matt Traverso's E-Book states, if the damage that is being done to the pancreas can be turned around, the organ will be given the chance to heal itself and then, gradually, it is possible for those who are dependent on insulin shots to be able to stop them all together. This means diabetes sufferers may no longer have to be dependant on the drugs and medications that are usually taken to treat the condition.

Top scientists such as Dr Robert O. Young, Dr Gabriel Cousens, Dr Fuhrman and many others (whose groundbreaking research forms the basis of this E-book) state that “diabetes is completely reversible”.

I would like to extend the opportunity to anyone who either suffers from type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or is at high risk of getting the disease, to learn more about “The Diabetes-Reversing Breakthrough!”

So if you want to find out more about this, then just visit the link now.

Carbs Information.

White Flour Carbs

Carbohydrates in Food  (http://www.carbs-information.com/)

White Flour Carbs
Sugary carbs, especially table sugar (sucrose), used to be seen as causing adverse health effects for
diabetics and people with symptoms of impaired glucose tolerance or insulin insensitivity.
Although a high sugar diet can cause problems for these groups,
most nutritionists now view refined white flour foods (most of which have a high GI-value; and no fibre !!)
as causing more glycemic health problems, such as insulin resistance, and digestive disorders.

Diabetes Information
Diabetes Mellitus (the longhand name for diabetes) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized
by elevated levels of glucose in the bloodstream. This excessive level of blood sugar  is caused
either by an insufficiency of the pancreatic hormone "insulin", or by the body's inability to use the
insulin it produces.

Diabetic - Weight Loss Q and A

Diet

Choosing a healthy lifestyle can help you improve your health and reduce your risk of heart
disease and diabetes.

Healthy lifestyles include eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly,
quitting smoking (or not starting), and minimizing stress. (Note: Specific guidance for maintaining
a healthy lifestyle may change over time as new scientific recommendations
become available.) Learn more about each of the factors that affect your lifestyle.

Eat a Healthy Diet

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans show how good dietary habits can promote health and
reduce risk for major chronic diseases.

A heart-healthy diet is one that is:

  • nutritious and well-balanced
  • low in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and salt
  • high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
The Food Guide Pyramid and the Food Label are tools to help consumers make informed food
choices in the context of a healthy diet.

Use the Food Guide Pyramid to help you choose healthy foods each day.

horizonal rule
Maintain a Healthy Weight

Excess body fat leads to health problems such as Diabetes 2, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Health professionals use a measurement called body mass index (BMI) to classify an adult's weight
as healthy, overweight, or obese.
BMI describes body weight relative to height and is correlated with total body fat content in most adults.

To find your BMI, use the chart on this page or
National Heart Lung and Blood Institute's BMI calculator.
 http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm

BMI range:

  • 18.5-25 -- healthy range
  • 25-30 - overweight
  • 30 or higher -- obese

Having excess abdominal body fat is also a health risk. Men with a waist of more than 40 inches
around and women with a waist of 35 inches or more are at risk for health problems.

More than 60 percent of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC). While the number of overweight people has been slowly climbing
since the 1980s, the number of obese adults has nearly doubled since then.

Excess weight and physical inactivity account for more than 300,000 premature deaths each year
in the United States, second only to deaths related to smoking, says the CDC. People who are overweight
or obese are more likely to develop heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes,
gallbladder disease and joint pain caused by excess uric acid (gout). Excess weight can also
cause interrupted breathing during sleep (sleep apnea) and wearing away of the joints (osteoarthritis).

To lose weight, you must eat less and move more. Your body needs to burn more calories than you take in.

For more information on losing weight, see:

horizonal rule
Exercise Regularly

Exercise improves heart function, lowers blood pressure and blood cholesterol, helps manage diabetes, and helps control weight.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at NIH recommends that adults get at least 30 minutes of
moderate physical activity on most days of the week.

Talk to your doctor about what forms of exercise are best for you.

For more information about exercise and physical fitness, see:

horizonal rule

Stress
Choosing a healthy lifestyle can help you improve your health and reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Minimize Stress
The link between stress and coronary heart disease is not entirely clear. However, people who have too much stress or who have unhealthy responses to stress may be at greater risk of having coronary heart disease.

Facts about stress and coronary heart disease:

  • Stress speeds up the heart rate.
  • People with heart disease are more likely to have a heart attack during times of stress.
  • People sometimes respond to stress with unhealthy habits such as smoking or eating salty
    or high-fat foods.

For information on stress reduction, see:

Nearly 65 percent of people with diabetes will die from a heart attack or stroke; because of a
lack of available information, two out of three people with diabetes are unaware of their heightened risk.

In order for those with diabetes to stay heart healthy, having the most up-to-date information is crucial.
Now, there's a place where people can go for the latest resources that can help them control their
diabetes, as well as monitor their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

When those with diabetes take steps to also ensure good cardiovascular health, they can live long,
healthy lives.

The National Diabetes Education Program is a federally funded program sponsored by the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Institutes of Health and the

HbA1c AND glucose

From www.diabeticretinopathy.org.uk

See for discussion below

see http://medweb.bham.ac.uk/easdec/prevention/what_is_the_hba1c.htm

How does your glucose level compare with your HbA1c

HbA1c %
Average blood sugar  level mmol/l
Average blood sugar  level mg/dl
13 18 mmol/l 324 mg/dl
12 17 mmol/l 306 mg/dl
11 15 mmol/l 270 mg/dl
10 13 mmol/l 234 mg/dl
9 12 mmol/l 216 mg/dl
8 10 mmol/l 180 mg/dl
7 8 mmol/l 141 mg/dl
6 7 mmol/l 125 mg/dl
5 5 mmol/l 90 mg/dl

HbA1c levels by coincidence nearly equate to glucose levels. So an HbA1c level of 10%
means the average glucose level for the previous 10 weeks was 13 mmol/l (234 mg/dl).

But at lower levels there is even less difference, so an  HbA1c of 7% means the average glucose level was
8 mmol/l (141 mg/dl).

See HbA1c to blood sugar  convertor (link).

xtreme fat loss If you’re in a hurry to make real weight loss in the shortest possible time perhaps for a special occasion or that long awaited bikini holiday this just might be the plan for you.

Joel Marion’s Xtreme Fat Loss Diet promises to lose you 25lbs in 25 days with the most strategic fat loss program ever delivered.

The sweetener is this program is that you can eat whatever you like every 5th day!

Joel Marion’s program is used the world over resulting in a reputation to be admired as well as being touted as one of America’s top 50 Personal Trainers.

The program is a simple one in that the sequence is repeated 5 times with a ‘cheat’ day every 5th day.  This helps prevent boredom and believe it or not ‘tricks’ your body into NOT storing fat which often happens on weight loss programs because of the reduced calorie intake.

However, you must be prepared to work out with this system as well as follow the nutritional information.  In other words if you just want a diet this is not for you.  The secret to its success is the combined formula of Joel’s eating plan and the intensity of the workouts.

Joel’s program is unique in that it addresses common problems dieters often face such as the weight loss plateau, stubborn fat that won’t seem to budge no matter what you try or if you just need to get rid of that fat in record time.

The program comes with a 100% money back guarantee as well as the promise of no Rebound Weight Gain.

Xtreme Fat Loss is a definite ‘Must Have’ in the dieting war.

Medications By John Sheehan, MD, FACE, FACN   http://cme.medscape.com/viewarticle/587183

"My task is to give you an overview of treating Diabetes 2 and of all the medications that we
have at our disposal. Life has changed a lot through the years in terms of Diabetes 2.

Twenty-five years ago, all we had was insulin and sulfonylureas. Consequently, we put patients
on sulfonylureas and when they failed over time, they all ended up on insulin. Today we have
many more medications to choose from. These medications work differently and they target
the multiple pathophysiologic defects that we have in Diabetes 2.

We understand that behind all of this there is the insulin-resistant liver overproducing glucose.
We have insulin resistance in the adipocytes.
We have high free fatty acids, worsening insulin resistance, and perhaps worsening beta-cell function.
We have insulin resistance in
skeletal muscles as well. All of these defects are coming into play, as well as declining insulin
over time because of progressive apoptosis or
programmed cell death of beta cells."

What Are The Treatments Available?

Diabetes 2 can sometimes be turned around with weight loss, a healthy diet and exercise.
If your doctor feels that is the case, then positive lifestyle changes that help you lose the
excess weight, and regular daily exercise may be enough. With medication or not,
diabetes still requires a healthy diet and physical activity for optimum health.

Medications are usually prescribed in addition to lifestyle changes. The medications work in
different ways but their effect is to lower blood sugar  and help the body's own insulin become
more effective. If oral medications are not enough, insulin injections may be used to
help gain control of glucose levels.

Control of Diabetes 2

Excellent Website !!

Embrace your diabetes

Learning how to control Diabetes 2...take control

What is happening in Diabetes 2

First, there is a shortage of insulin

Second, there is insulin resistance.

Third, there are genes

These factors combine to cause Diabetes 2

Pattern of progression

  1. At the beginning of Diabetes 2 a healthy diet may be sufficient to lower the sugar and keep the HbA1c below 7%
  2. Later, metformin is needed.
  3. Later still, add Exanatide if overweight or other drug.
  4. Later still insulin may be required

Testing you sugar/glucose level

See testing. If you 'embrace' your diabetes, you will gradually learn to control it and achieve an
HbA1c of 7% or below.
But to do this, you need to check to see your

  • fasting blood sugar  levels are 4 - 7 mmol/l (72-126 mg/dl) (when you wake up)
  • test your blood sugar  levels before meals between 4 and 7 mmol/l (72-126 mg/dl)
  • remember, you still need tablets if you are ill; if you are being sick or cannot swallow the tablets,
    |let your doctor or nurse know.
  • occasionally test after meals (preferred levels less than 10 mmol/l) (180 mg/dl )
  • To achieve very good control (HbA1c 6.5-7.0%) you need a fasting pre-breakfast glucose
    less than 5.5 mmol/l (99 mg/dl ), pre-meal levels at other times less than 6.0 mmol/l (108 mg/dl )
    and after-meal levels (2 hours after a meal) less than 8.0 mmol/l (141 mg/dl).
  • These levels cannot be achieved in all patients..but if you are well and are prepared to stick to a healthy
diet and exercise your medication should be adjusted to achieve these levels, even if that
    means starting insulin.

Do you need tablets (or insulin), and if so what?

Fruit

Cure and Cause of Diabetes :  by Dr. James Howenstine, M.D.

Sugar in the form of fruit contains fiber that delays absorption and thus moderates the rise in blood
sugar values when fruit is consumed.
Refined white sugar, sucrose, and dextrose lack fiber and nutrients.
When consumed in food or drinks the refined sugar rapidly goes into the blood stream and produces
a sharp rise in blood sugar values. The pancreas secretes large amounts of insulin to promptly return
high blood sugar values to normal.

Minerals

Cure and Cause of Diabetes :  by Dr. James Howenstine, M.D.

When consumed in food or drinks the refined sugar rapidly goes into the blood stream and produces
a sharp rise in blood sugar values.
The pancreas secretes large amounts of insulin to promptly return high blood sugar values to normal.

Sharp rises  in insulin output may cause overshooting the desired blood sugar and it is common for
these individuals to have blood sugar values plummet to low levels with symptoms of low blood sugar
(weakness, sweating, cloudy thinking, lack of energy, hunger, shakiness).

With the passage of time this massive output of insulin provoked by huge sugar intakes takes a
toll on the pancreas and reaches the point where the pancreas is unable to produce any greater
quantities of insulin. When this occurs sugar no longer enters the cells in adequate
amounts to prevent rising blood sugar values. The diagnosis of diabetes can be made
with now elevated blood sugar values but the problem obviously began many years earlier
with the first signs of insulin excess.

Insulin and Obesity

Cure and Cause of Diabetes :  by Dr. James Howenstine, M.D.

Why Do Diabetics Become Obese?
When the pre-diabetic person is experiencing chronic high insulin values with too many carbohydrate calories,
this insulin is converting some of the excess glucose into the fat triglyceride, which gets stored in
fat cells which end up distended in an obese patient.

Insulin resistance

Insulin levels -in insulin resistance -  phantom of the metabolic opera

Conceptually, identifying the metabolic syndrome (or insulin resistance) identifies risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD)
or diabetes.

This article explains how, historically, insulin resistance brought together facets of the metabolic
syndrome and the pathogenesis of diabetes and atheroma (thicklening of arteries in CVD)  but has since
been clinically “overtaken” by central obesity, now accepted as the core component
of the metabolic syndrome.

The metabolic syndrome encompasses a wide range of metabolic disturbances in glucose, insulin and
lipid metabolism, and is associated with
central abdominal obesity.

Why identify the metabolic syndrome?

Why does insulin resistance matter?

Why not to measure insulin resistance

Why does this debate matter?

Fats

Know Your Fats by the American Heart Association

Knowing which fats raise LDL cholesterol and which ones don't is the first step in lowering your risk of heart disease. In addition to the LDL produced naturally by your body, saturated fat, trans-fatty acids and dietary cholesterol can also raise blood cholesterol. Monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats appear to not raise LDL cholesterol; some studies suggest they might even help lower LDL cholesterol slightly when eaten as part of a low-saturated and trans-fat diet.

The American Heart Association's Nutrition Committee strongly advises these fat guidelines for healthy Americans over age 2:  read more ......

For example, a sedentary female who is 31–50 years old needs about 2,000 calories each day. Therefore, she should consume less than 16 g saturated fat, less than 2 g trans fat and between 50 and 70 grams of total fat each day (with most fats coming from sources of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, such as fish, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils).

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has identified an increased risk of ulcers and amputations
in the following groups of people with diabetes:
  • Those who have had diabetes for ten years or longer
  • Men
  • People whose blood sugar  control is less than optimal
  • People who already have other diabetes complications, such as cardiovascular (heart) disease,

Lower Cholesterol to Lower Heart Risk Diabetes Self-Management !!!

Although people with diabetes tend to have levels of LDL cholesterol that are the same (or only slightly elevated)
as people who don’t have diabetes, their LDL particles are of a different and more dangerous kind.

The LDL particles in people with diabetes are different because they contain more triglycerides.
"When you increase the concentration of triglycerides in LDL cholesterol, its structure changes and
it becomes a smaller, denser particle," says Leonard M. Keilson, M.D., M.P.H., a lipids specialist

"These dense LDL particles are particularly dangerous, because they can more easily cross
the endothelium—the lining of the arteries—and enter the wall of the vessels." Fatty deposits in
arterial walls lead to atherosclerosis."

   Diabetes Type 2 Diet

Type 2 Diabetes - Sugary Drinks OK ?

Sugary drinks should not be a common menu option if you have type 2 diabetes. Should you remove them all together? Only you and your doctor can determine that. However, there are few benefits of keeping them in your Diet. Most sugary drinks contain nothing of significant nutritional value. The main thing they contain is sugar in various forms. When you drink a can of soda or sweet tea, the body quickly turns it into glucose quickly. It leads to spikes in glucose levels. If you need the sugar spike, think of drinking a fruit juice instead. If you want caffeine, switch to plain coffee or tea. There are many options for getting a tasty drink without ingesting sugary drinks.

If you drink sugary drinks at least once a day, your chances of developing type 2 Diabetes is double that of those that don’t drink them that often. They contribute to weight issues and that leads to insulin resistance. For those with diabetes already, ingesting these drinks means they are less likely to be able manage their blood  glucose levels. Research links sugary drinks with elevated risks of heart disease and weakened bone structure. All of these show why these drinks are not a good choice for Diabetics.

If you don’t think that sugary drinks are so bad, let’s look at the facts about some of them. A 12-ounce (340 mL) can of Coke contains 140 calories. It also has 39 grams of sugar. A similar sized can of Pepsi has 150 calories and has 42 grams of sugar. Neither of these have any nutritional value, fiber, or protein. Sweet tea’s values for calories and carbohydrates swing wildly depending on the source. Homemade is better than from a fast food place. However, it also contains no nutritional value. No sugary drink contains anything of nutritional value.

If you think drinking Diet soda or tea with artificial sweetener is a good alternative, think again. Studies show that those that ingest drinks with artificial sweeteners often gain weight over time instead of losing it. There are also problems with metabolism issues in these people as well. Some artificial sweeteners come with an elevated risk of cancer. Others may cause brain tumors. Why take the chance? When dealing with type 2 diabetes, it is important to look at your entire health. Drinking things high with sugar or artificial sweeteners can cause problems that you don’t otherwise need to face.

   Information About Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes - What Should I Look Out For ?

Once you get a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, what should you keep in mind? The disease comes with very serious complications. They can vary based on age, gender, and family origins. That is why you need to monitor for potential complications no matter who you are.  Family origins mean certain populations may have a higher chance of developing certain complications. Those of African American descent have a greater chance of getting the disease than others do. Adults in this group have a one in seven chance of developing the disease. By age, fifty-five, one out of four women in this group have it. Blindness is a common complication for that group along with amputation and renal failure.

Native Americans have worse results than those of African American descent. By the time they reach retirement age, more of them will have the disease. Three out of ten in that population likely has pre-Diabetes at any time. People from Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands get type 2 diabetes more often even if they are not obese. With obesity, the chances grow quickly. Add a family history or a couch potato lifestyle and it goes to the stratosphere. Looking into your family’s ethnic background can help you identify potential Type 2 Diabetes complications to monitor.

Gender also plays a part in determining complications to monitor. Women can develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy. That can lead to losing the baby. Some babies develop birth defects due to the increase in blood  glucose. It also is a pre-cursor to developing type 2 diabetes. Women from non-white backgrounds have a higher chance of getting it than women from white backgrounds. Complications such as eating disorders and depression are higher in women as well. Men get heart  attacks and strokes more often than women do. The glucose levels often attack their kidneys sooner than in women. Vision problems, blindness, and gum disease often strike men as well.

So what should you watch for with type 2 diabetes? All complications can hit anyone that has the disease. Here is a list of potential complications: vision problems, blindness, gum disease, heart attacks, heart disease, eating disorders, depression, weight gain, weight loss, excessive thirst, nerve damage, renal failure, circulation problems, and amputation. If none of those is bad enough, Diabetic coma is a severe complication. The final one is death. Which one do you want to experience? If you know better, the answer is none.

   Managing Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes - Other Health Problems Too !

You just received a diagnosis of type 2 Diabetes. In addition, if that weren’t bad enough, your doctor may tell you that you are at risk of developing other major conditions that could be life threatening. Finding out what those might be is one way to take some control over the situation. Here are some of the big ones. With diabetes, you have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, depression, nerve damage, renal failure, amputation, and blindness. You can prevent or significantly delay all of these if you take proactive measures early.

Heart disease is one of the major concerns. High levels of glucose cause damages to blood vessels all over the body. People with type 2 diabetes also appear to get cholesterol easier than others do. They also have issues with high blood pressure. All of this can lead up to a heart  attack or even a stroke. It is extremely important to keep a strict eye on your heart health. Taking measures to eat a healthy Diet and to exercise are good ways to be proactive with this. Losing weight is even better though.

Elevated glucose levels cause blood  vessels around the body to constrict more than normal. They can also damage nerves. In the feet and legs, constricted blood vessels and nerve damage can lead to amputation. Nerve damage usually begins the problems. You start to lose feeling in the feet and lower legs. Then, you get a small wound, but don’t know it. The constricted blood flow slows down healing of the wound. In some cases, it may become infected. If the infection gets out of control, it can damage the tissue in this area of the body. This may happen a few times. Things may get to the point where your doctor will recommend an amputation to prevent further problems.

Elevated glucose levels also affect the fluids in the eyes. It can damage retinal tissue. When this happens, loss of eyesight is common. The same damage may occur with the tissue of the kidneys. If enough damage happens, kidney failure can occur. Depression symptoms can come because of low blood  sugar. However, many people get the psychological form as well. Dealing with a chronic disease can be taxing to people. The worry can wear down people’s resolve. All of these show why it is so important to get control of your Type 2 Diabetes early. You can delay or even prevent any of them from happening. Apathy is the worst enemy.

   Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes - What is Borderline Diabetes ?

Borderline diabetes is an older term for what many now call pre-diabetes. This condition is a prelude to full-blown type 2 diabetes. You are literally on the borderline before crossing into the diabetes territory. You have elevated levels of blood glucose but have not reach the point of a diabetes diagnosis. Diabetes is a progressive disease. From its inception, blood glucose begins to rise. Because it is often slow to manifest, it may take years before diabetes develops. You can actually look at getting a diagnosis of pre-diabetes as a good thing. It is a wakeup call. You need to start taking preventative measures. It is also a wakeup call to prevent the other medical complications that accompany diabetes.

In some people, stopping the journey into diabetes is impossible with today’s treatment options. However, for a lucky few, it is possible. The results depend on your overall health and other factors. Taking preventative steps early benefits everyone. That is true even for those that later develop full Type 2 Diabetes. Even making moderate changes will slow down or reverse pre-diabetes. Common recommendations for those with borderline Diabetes is losing five to ten percent of current body weight and exercising 30 minutes a day, five days each week. They can have a large impact on the future.

Modest changes give you a fighting chance. However, changes that are more radical increase the chances of pulling back from borderline diabetes. Slimming down to your ideal weight is a good one to accomplish. Getting more exercise is another. Insulin resistance will go down with those two actions. Your blood  glucose levels will begin to normalize. Decreasing the amount of insulin resistance by any amount is progress in the right direction. With type 2 diabetes, normalizing blood glucose is a major accomplishment.

Another important way to pull back from borderline diabetes is monitoring your blood glucose levels. Since you don’t have full type 2 diabetes, you likely don’t need a glucose meter. However, it is important to get diabetes screening at least once a year. It will help you see if the disease is progressing or pulling back. Regular screening will give you and your doctor data to determine what other steps you may need to take. Information is your friend when dealing with any aspect of Diabetes. If you can take enough action, you might be able to avoid falling prey to this life-threatening disease.

   Type 2 Diabetes Information

Type 2 Diabetes - Keeping Fit, Active and Healthy !

Why is it so important for someone with type 2 diabetes to get healthy and active? Diabetes brings so many complications with it. You must constantly monitor your blood  glucose levels. Sometimes you might need to take medications or insulin to get things under control. The disease brings an increased threat of heart disease and stroke. You and your family need to make adjustment for the new realities of the disease. In addition, all of this happens in the midst of dealing with everyday life and normal obligations. All of these reasons sound good for skipping the part about getting healthy and active. Nevertheless, these very reasons are why you should.

Losing weight is extremely important for someone with type 2 diabetes. Excess weight builds insulin resistance. If you are a couch potato, your choice to remain stationary also contributes to that resistance. Poor food choices high in carbohydrates don’t help either. Losing weight is easier when you make changes to your Diet and exercise. Changes to the diet include getting your food portions in check and choosing the right foods. Changes to exercise translate to starting it in the first place for many. When you begin to lose weight, you will begin to see positive results.

When you lose weight, many positive things begin to happen to your Type 2 Diabetes. As the weight drops, so does your insulin resistance. As you increase your exercise levels, your glucose levels begin to drop. It also helps reduce insulin resistance as well. As you make healthy choices in your Diet, your glucose levels begin to steady. Weight loss and exercise will also lower your chances of developing heart disease. Your cholesterol and blood pressure will lower. Circulation improves as well.

After awhile, being fit, healthy, and active will become routine for you. In the beginning, however, the changes will seem miraculous at times. You will find your attitude shifting since healthy diet and exercise boosts mood. As you drop weight, your energy levels will soar. You will begin taking on more activities than you had before. Your concentration will increase. You will be able to play with your kids longer. Sleep will improve. All of these benefits begin by getting off the couch and starting to move. If you have type 2 Diabetes or any risk of it in the future, getting healthy and fit should become a priority in your life.

   Treating Diabetes Type 2

Type 2 Diabetes - Natural Treatment Options !

Many people with type 2 diabetes want to treat their disease without medications or insulin if possible. Finding natural remedies requires using your head and consulting your doctor first. Several good supplements can help boost your body’s ability to regulate glucose and lower insulin resistance. These include North American ginseng, chromium, magnesium, and zinc. However, use them only with your doctor’s permission. Some supplements can interfere with your medications. Don’t start experimenting on your own because you are likely to cause your glucose to spike or rapidly drop. There are other natural remedies available though. These include exercise, Diet, and losing weight.

For those looking for natural treatment options for Type 2 Diabetes, those three activities should top the list. They require no medications or insulin. With them, many people find they have good control over their diabetes without the need for meds or insulin. For those with pre-diabetes, those activities can delay or prevent the onset of full-blown Diabetes. They are preventative measures for people who are obese or who have a family history of the disease. All of this comes together to give you a natural way to treat your diabetes. It requires nothing special except the commitment to make the changes necessary.

Exercise helps lower the amount of glucose in the blood. It also helps lower insulin resistance. Both of these are extremely important in regulating your type 2 diabetes. Changing your Diet is also important. Carbohydrates are necessary for long-term health. However, for someone with diabetes, it can become trouble. You need to consume carbohydrates in small portions and spaced out through the day. That helps keep glucose levels within a normal range. Some fats are unhealthy can contribute to heart disease. Losing weight is a usual result of changing your Diet and exercise. However, for those with diabetes it is even more important since losing weight also lowers insulin resistance.

Wanting a natural treatment option is a desire many have. You will find your doctor is more open to helping you seek alternate treatment options if you are pre-Diabetic or have your diabetes under excellent control. If your diabetes is not under control, adding other substances into the mix may make things worse instead of better. Use your head and heed advice your doctor gives you. Type 2 Diabetes is a serious condition that if not treated properly can have life-threatening consequences. Don’t take unnecessary chances with your health.
